Het Dorpje La Realidad (De Werkelijkheid) wordt beschouwd als de "hoofdstad" van de Zapatistas in Chapas, Mexico.
Als ondercommandant Marcos van het EZLN (Ejercito Zapatista para la Liberación National) zich vertoont is
het hier. De indiaanse inwoners zijn uitgesproken aanhangers van de guerrillabeweging. Het leger trekt
dagelijks in colonne langs om het militaire overwicht te tonen. De gewapende Zapatistas hebben zich
verschanst in het oerwoud. Sinds 1994 is er in La Realidad
geen vertegenwoordiging van de Mexicaanse
overheid meer. De indianen hebben er een vorm van zelfbestuur. Onderwijs en gezondheidszorg zijn door
de bewoners zelf opgezet.

daily in column to show the military preponderance. The armed Zapatistas withdraw in the jungle. Since 1994
the Mexicon gouvernment has no representation in La Realidad.
The indians formed a shape of self-government.
Education and health care are set up by the inhabitants themself.
