Istanbul, het vroegere Constantinopel, aan de
Bosporus. Een vooruitgeschoven post van Azië in Europa. Een stad
met diverse nationaliteiten, rassen en talen. Istanbul, een
miljoenenstad. Voor honderdduizenden vluchtelingen en illegalen
de 'place to jump'. Over land naar Griekenland, per boot naar
Italië. En dan verder Europa in. Piet den Blanken fotografeerde
het dagelijks leven van vluchtelingen en illegalen. Ëuropa is
een eiland van rijkdom omgeven een zee van elllende. De stroom
illegalen zal niet stoppen, tenzij mensen in eigen land een
toekomst zien"
Istanbul, former Constantinopel on teh Bosporus. A forward post of Asia toward Europe. A city with many nacionalities, races and languages. For hundred of thousends it is the place to jump. By sea to Italy or over land to Greece. And then forward into Europe. Piet den Blanken photographed the daily life of regugees and illegal migrants. "Europe is an Iland of richness in a sea of elland. Illegal migration will not stop until people see a perspective in their own country".
